THPCA – why our different approach is better for you
Open any web browser, or Yell.com, type in “Accountants Glasgow”, and you will find that you can choose from a ‘self-proclaimed’ extensive range of services offered by hundreds of accountancy practices across Glasgow and central Scotland.
But how many Glasgow Accountants can say they have
- THPCA’s extensive personal experience of running their own business?
- How many will be professionally qualified with years of experience like the THPCA team?
Asking these questions is important; getting the correct answers is vital, because the difference between mediocre and excellent can have major ramifications for you and your business.
We have 30+ years’ expertise in advising our clients, from sole traders and SME’s to companies with 100+ staff and organisations with multi-million pound turnovers.
Most accountants these days will offer you a great service in compliance:
- Tax returns on time
- VAT up-to-date
- Statutory filing up-to-date
- Accounts prepared just before the filing deadline
- Blah, blah, blah
However at THPCA, we offer a somewhat different approach. We do all of the above, but additionally we excel at demystifying the complexities of management and compliance while providing insight into business improvement and advancement. We use our experience and expertise to help you run and improve your business.
It benefits us all if our working relationship is built on respect and trust. We will never bombard you with ‘accountancy speak’. We believe in using the same jargon-free language as you. We also set our fees at realistic cost-effective levels, keeping your individual circumstances and budget in mind.
Our clients often remark on our key values:
- We are friendly – they see us as an approachable helping hand, rather than a professional adviser
- We are credible – our business experience means we know what we are talking about when we advise your business
- We are plain-speaking – in a jargon-free language you understand to eradicate confusion and stress
- We are experts – our professional qualifications coupled with our extensive business experience ensures an unparalleled level of expertise at your service.
Make sure your finances are in expert hands. Contact us now to find out how we could help your business.

Our Team

Andy Houston
Andy is the driving force behind business growth at THPCA, due to his charming, outgoing personality. After training as an accountant with Houston Rooney Chartered Accountants, Andy gained a wealth of experience running his own small professional practice, as well as a spell in industry as a Company Accountant. He has therefore spent a large part of his career at the cutting edge of small business tax, VAT and compliance issues. Andy co-founded, (with his brother David) THPCA’s predecessor firm The Houston Partnership Chartered Accountants.
After 5 o’clock Andy can usually be found playing guitar, watching sport (or for those of you who know him better, he’ll either be in the pub, moaning about something, or both )

Morag Baxter
Morag qualified as a Chartered Accountant around about the same time as Scotland last had a good football team, we’ll leave it to you to guess when that was. Having trained in the tax department of KPMG, she went on to become a partner in Houston Rooney Chartered Accountants, before moving into industry and working in a variety of sectors, including IT, Education and Leisure. She now practices her renowned managerial skills at THPCA.
Being from farming stock and living on a farm, Morag spends her spare time milking cows, birthing lambs, and drinking fine red wines.

David Houston
Since qualifying as a Chartered Accountant back in the good old days of no HMRC or Companies House penalties, David has spent most of his career working for himself, firstly as a founding partner of Houston Rooney Chartered Accountants (now Grants CA), then as founding director of Glow International, an international tax consultancy. THPCA has evolved from The Houston Partnership Chartered Accountants, set up with his brother Andy in 2011.
Outside work David’s main interests are a good political discussion (inevitably destined to end up as an argument), sport and learning to play the saxophone (badly!).

Alison Smith
Alison, having gone through university and the arduous chartered accountancy training schedule with Morag, started off her accountancy career initially with a small Glasgow practice, then joined Houston Rooney, where she worked with David for over 13 years. After gaining experience working within industry for the last few years, she re-joined David & Andy at THPCA in 2018.
Alison’s leisure time is mostly taken up spending time with her family, although she also has been known to enjoy an occasional glass of rosé wine.

Greg Cassidy
Greg trained as an accountant in a small practice environment and has spent his career in several practices comparable to THPCA. He came to our attention through his previous employment with one of the peer firms of THPCA, and has stuck with us through the rapid expansion and related challenges that brings. Greg is a calm head in a hectic environment, and often has the answer to the question that no-one else has the time or inclination to address.
When the laptop is closed, Greg is another THP football enthusiast, helping to stoke the tongue in cheek Old Firm rivalry within THP, and has been known to relax by being shouted at on a football pitch while strutting his stuff as an amateur referee.

Caroline Wisbey-Brown
Caroline, our token Essex girl, spent twenty years in the finance departments of various companies in the City of London, across a wide range of industries, before joining David at Glow International in 2005, and has been working with him ever since. During this time, she gained a wealth of experience in the financial and compliance peculiarities of the particular needs of the freelance professional sector.
After work Caroline enjoys horse riding, as well as being a keen leisure and touring cyclist.

Bob Sinclair
Bob, another ex-Houston Rooney stalwart, brings a wealth of experience to THPCA, having worked across a broad spectrum of accountancy posts including private practice, local government and international tax, where he worked with David helping to establish their international tax compliance practice.
Bob is another founding employee of The Houston Partnership and can always be relied upon if you are ever stuck with a crossword clue, need a pub quiz participant, or his speciality – name the group and the year of that song! His expertise has been augmented with the arrival of Google!

Alistair Campbell
Alistair joined the THPCA team in January 2023 a few months after graduating at Glasgow Caledonian University. Here he has been putting his knowledge to the test in a work place environment where he has been learning new skills and knowledge you couldn’t find in the classroom. Seeking to further improve his qualifications Alistair plans to undertake his chartership to become a qualified Chartered accountant.
Outside the office Ally enjoys meeting up with friends for a drink or something to eat unless he’s at home playing games on his Xbox.

Seonaid Byles
Seonaid stated her career in Lyndsay & Waugh a long time ago before moving into the Whisky Industry where (in between tastings) she worked as a bookkeeper in the Finance Department, responsible for accounts payable and payroll.
After work she enjoys walking her dog, cooking, and spending time with her family, and is a passionate follower of the Scottish Rugby Union Team.

Karen Grant
Karen started her accountancy career in Arthur Anderson, followed by a short spell with Martin Aitken & Co. She then moved into Education and Insurance, before deciding to specialise in payroll where pre THPCA she held payroll posts with RSM, French Duncan and Azets (where she qualified in payroll via CIPP).
In the summer Karen can be found whizzing about Scotland on the back of a motorbike. In the winter she can be found in various locations dancing Argentine Tango.
